About FlyerIntel
FlyerIntel exists to answer two questions well: what do I need to know before I fly, and — on the day — what do I need to know right now.
What it is
Before a flight, most travellers end up checking four or five different websites: the airport for security and parking, a weather service, the FAA for disruptions, and somewhere else entirely to find out whether the route they booked is any good. Each of those sites answers one question in isolation. None of them tells you what the combination means.
FlyerIntel is the layer that sits above them. It ingests official data, normalises it into a single model, computes its own analysis on top, and presents the result as one view of a single airport, route or airline.
What it is built on
The historical backbone is the US Department of Transportation’s Reporting Carrier On-Time Performance dataset — a record of every scheduled domestic flight operated by carriers above the reporting threshold. FlyerIntel currently holds 21,076,354 individual flight records covering 36 months. That is not a summary table: it is the underlying records, which is what makes it possible to answer questions the source never anticipated — how a specific route performs at 7 AM versus 7 PM, which carrier is genuinely better on it, and whether that has changed.
Live conditions come from the NOAA Aviation Weather Center and, where accessible, the FAA National Airspace System status feed. Airport-published information is ingested where the airport permits it.
FlyerIntel currently covers 36 major US airports in depth. Coverage expands only where the data supports a page genuinely worth reading.
What it will not do
- Invent data. No estimated wait times, no placeholder availability, no fabricated flight status. If we do not have it, the page says so.
- Fake freshness. Every live value shows how old it actually is. Nothing is labelled "Live" that is not.
- Overstate a small sample. Thresholds are published, and conclusions below them are simply not shown.
- Bypass access controls. Where a source blocks automated collection, we leave the section empty and explain why on Data sources.
- Predict your flight. Airport weather is not a delay. Historical reliability is not a forecast. We are careful about the difference.
Independence
FlyerIntel is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with any airline, airport, booking service or government agency. No airline or airport pays for placement, and no commercial relationship influences a reliability score or a ranking. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed prominently and before the fact.
Corrections
Travel information changes constantly and sources make mistakes. If something on FlyerIntel looks wrong, tell us — every page carries a link to do so, and reports are reviewed.
